Have a good look

Most of the prawn's freshness  can be easily spotted by the way they look. A pale, soft and dull looking fish is always a no - no. Go for the fish which shines and looks fresh.

Smell the prawns

Any fish that you buy should smell like the sea does, salty. If the fish smell has any signs of ammonia cancel it out then and there.

Check the color of the prawns

If the color of the prawns and shrimps you buy is intact and bright, go for. Don't buy discolored prawns or shrimps. Discolored prawns always mean that they are on the verge of going bad.

Have a proper look at the shell's of prawns and shrimps

The shells of prawns and shrimps should always be firm, glossy and intact. If you find then slimy or slippery and they are broken too, avoid buying it.

Look into the prawn's eyes :)

For a change! What I mean here is the eyes of the prawns that you intend to buy should always be prominent, bulgy and shiny. And most of all they should be there. No buying prawns with eyes missing.
